Have you ever had that feeling when you were just so happy that nothing could go wrong and two hours feel like two minutes? Your abs are so sore from all the laughing that it feels as if you just have finished P90X mid-body work out? Still after couple months your mind travels back to that moment and the only thing that you want for Christmas is a teleport that would take you back?
Were you happy in that moment because you were in Brickell, watching the light show from the 40th floor of a skyscraper? Or because you were driving on South Beach in your shiny Mercedes-Benz Convertible?
Well maybe, but still, I believe that it was mainly because of the great people around you at that moment.
Now, it is my second year living in Miami and to be honest, the first couple months I hated it here. Obviously it was because of the culture shock and it was definately because of not having an own transportation. In addition, I didn't know any places to go and even if I knew a place, that I read about from the New Times magazine, I didn't know anyone who I could go there with. The only thing that I knew about the city was the map of South Beach, thanks to the the road trip with old school friends in 2010.. That was a good spring break by the way.
After those couple months of hatred towards Miami's "superficial" culture, little by little I started to find out how diverse and multicultural the city actually is. All the places you can go, all the things you can do, and on top of that, all the interesting and unique people you get to meet. The only thing that you have to do is just to change your map of South Beach to a map of Allapattah or Little Haiti, and you will learn a whole different Miami.
For the next couple months, my Canon and I, we will go around Miami to meet people and of course you as readers get to meet them too. Well if not in person, then at least through the second best option, photos.
